This will be easy if try this with a 3x3 square grid and see the pattern its actually sum of square numbers i.e. 9+4+1=14(for 3x3) simmilarly for our problem it is 64(1x1squares)+49(2x2 squares)+ .......+1(8x8 squares) =204 done now you can create many more probelm like npo of squares in 4x4 grid

I had posted exactly the same question long back...

= 1²+2²+ ... + 8² = 8×9×17/6 = 204

1 8x8

4 7x7

9 6x6

16 5x5

25 4x4

36 3x3

49 2x2

64 1x1

sum(i=1 to 8; i^2) = 204
