As we discussed here , it suffices to complete the squares, ( x + 2 y + z ) 2 ( y + z ) 2 = 1 (x+2y+z)^2-(y+z)^2=1 . Since the coefficients are positive, negative and zero, this is a hyperbolic cylinder .
