The slope is 2 x + p = 1 0 + p = 1 p = 1 2x+p=-1 \implies 0+p=-1\implies p=-1 and q = 3 q=3 by the plugging the coordinates of ( 0 , 3 ) (0,3) into the equation of the parabola. Thus, p + q = 3 1 = 2 p+q= 3-1=2
