Let the bird bath

Geometry Level pending

Jack made a bird-bath for his garden in the shape of a cylinder with a hemispherical depression at one end. The height of the cylinder is 1.45m and its radius is 30cm. Find the total surface area of the bird-bath.

Take π = 22 7 \pi = \frac {22}{7}

3.2 m 2 3.2 \text { m}^{2} 3.3 m 2 3.3 \text { m}^{2} 2.3 cm 2 2.3 \text { cm}^{2} 2.3 m 2 2.3 \text { m}^{2}

Let h h be the height of the cylinder, and r r the common radius of the cylinder and hemisphere. Then, the total surface area of the bird bath

Then, the total surface area of the birdbath will be
\Rightarrow Curved Surface Area of the cylinder + Curved Surface Area of hemisphere
= 2 π r h + 2 π r 2 2\pi rh + 2\pi r^2
= 2 × 22 7 × 30 ( 145 + 30 ) c m 2 2 \times \frac {22}{7} \times 30(145+30) cm^2
= 33000 c m 2 33000 cm^2
= 3.3 m 2 \boxed{3.3 m^2}
