Let A A be the original number of adults and C C be the original number of children. Then we have the two equations:

A C = 1 4 \dfrac{A}{C}=\dfrac{1}{4} and A + 1 C + 10 = 1 5 \dfrac{A+1}{C+10}=\dfrac{1}{5}

Solving the system of equations gives A = 5 A=5 and C = 20 C=20 . The desired answer is 5 \boxed{5}
