Let's study Chemistry 12

Chemistry Level 3

While purification of compounds we explore different kind of differences between the impurity and the compound. In distillation we look at the difference between their boiling point. The vapours are condensed by using condenser and the liquid is collected in a receiver. One day heiten an 11 standard student find a figure shown in his chemistry textbook in which the inlet and outlet of condenser was labeled , he surprisingly noted a fault in that and rushed to his class teacher and said "Sir, in our textbook the inlet of distillation is at low height and the outlet is at high height don't you think it should be just opposite to save energy of pumping water" Ram sir immediately laughed and appreciated his good observation skills and told him the reason why it cannot be reverse

?

if we look the water sources are quite high and they could easily provide water without pumping no such kind of reason exist because no one has observed it before none of these it has been misprinted in 11 class textbook

It is reverse to provide a lower temperature as the vapour goes down the condenser.

it can't be reverse because if we get water from a height the water molecules would get kinetic energy and they would not be able to condense well as the contact time of water and compound molecules will reduce.
