Carbon atoms are at the two ends and the junction, therefore there are 3 carbon atoms. Carbon atom has a valency of 4. The carbon atom at the junction has two bonds with 1 oxygen atom and two carbon atoms at the ends. The two end carbon atoms each has 3 remaining bonds each with a hydrogen atom. Therefore there ae 6 hydrogen atoms.

  • Three unnamed vertices -> 3 carbon atoms
  • One O -> 1 oxygen atom
  • Left unnamed vertices only one line -> 3 hydrogen atoms
  • Middle unnamed vertices four lines -> 0 hydrogen atoms
  • Right unnamed vertices only one line -> 3 hydrogen atoms

Therefore C3H6O

For hydrogen atoms:

one line = 3 hydrogen atoms

two lines = 2 hydrogen atoms

three lines = 1 hydrogen atom

four lines = 0 hydrogen atoms
