Life Situation 2: Tiring Chores

Logic Level 1

It is 11 p.m. and you want to sleep, but your parents want you to finish some chores. There are 5 chores and the amount of time needed to finish each chore.

  • 3 minutes: Putting the clothes to the dryer

  • 14 minutes: Dry the clothes using the dryer

  • 3 minutes: Taking the clothes out of the dryer

  • 5 minutes: Take the trash out

  • 9 minutes: Wash the dishes by hand

Some chores do not require you to be there till it is done so you can do the other chores, e.g. You can wash the dishes while the clothes are being dried in the dryer. Some chores also need to be done before the other chores

You are very tired and want to finish the chores as fast as possible. What is the least amount of time needed to finish all the chores?

17 minutes 34 minutes 25 minutes 20 minutes

Some chores do not require you. It's the key. you will see that 14 min drying clothes is that. Other two putting clothes 3 min and taking clothes 3 min is to be done before and after 14 min drying. now that's your free time. the other two work like take the trash and wash the dishes both take 5 min and 9 min that means total 14 min. so you can do that in the middle of 14 min drying. that's why the answer is 3 min + 14 min + 3 min = 20 min.

Nice solution.

While the clothes are drying you have 14 minutes. This gives you enough time to take out the trash and wash the dishes so that means, instead of taking 34 minutes, you take 20 minutes because you can just pretend that 'take out the trash' and 'handwash dishes' aren't on the list and it gives you 20

You have 14 minutes of free time, right? So do the chores requiring the most amount of time during, and you're done.

Putting he clothes in the dryer = 3 min Drying process/Dishes (9) +Trash (5) = 14 min Taking the clothes out = 3 min TOTAL = 20 minutes

It will take 3 minutes for putting the clothes to the dryer,14 minutes for drying the clothes, till the time clothes dry I can take the trash out and wash utensils, then 3 minutes for taking clothes out of the dryer. The total is 20 minutes.

theres no need to add the 14 minutes because there are two choices which already includes by putting and taking out the clothes into the dryer...
