This is a tricky question and many are tempted to answer 24 days. However, it is not.

x = 2 48 x=2^{48}

2 1 x = 2 1 2 48 2^{-1}x=2^{-1}*2^{48}

0.5 x = 2 47 0.5x=\large\color{#D61F06}\boxed{2^{47}}

Honestly it is not so tricky now because there are so many problems like this on brilliant!

Every day, the patch doubles in size. So 2 × 0.5 = 1 2 \times 0.5 = 1

Half of 2 is 1, hence 48 1 = 47 48 - 1 = \boxed{47}
