1 solution

In general, h ( x ) h(x) is continuous on a given closed interval [ a , b ] [a,b] if and only if

  • (i) x 0 ( a , b ) , lim x x 0 h ( x ) = h ( x 0 ) \forall x_{0} \in (a,b), \displaystyle\lim_{x \to x_{0}} h(x) = h(x_{0}) , and

  • (ii) lim x a + h ( x ) = h ( a ) \displaystyle\lim_{x \to a^{+}} h(x) = h(a) and lim x b h ( x ) = h ( b ) \displaystyle\lim_{x \to b^{-}} h(x) = h(b) .

As conditions (i) and (ii) both hold for the given function h ( x ) h(x) on [ a , b ] [a,b] we can conclude that Y e s \boxed{Yes} , h ( x ) h(x) is continuous on the interval [ a , b ] [a,b] .
