In general, h ( x ) is continuous on a given closed interval [ a , b ] if and only if
(i) ∀ x 0 ∈ ( a , b ) , x → x 0 lim h ( x ) = h ( x 0 ) , and
(ii) x → a + lim h ( x ) = h ( a ) and x → b − lim h ( x ) = h ( b ) .
As conditions (i) and (ii) both hold for the given function h ( x ) on [ a , b ] we can conclude that Y e s , h ( x ) is continuous on the interval [ a , b ] .
