I think its not nessesary to mention that domain of linear function is real

you appear to have had a formatting error but it is still understandable so: f ( x 1 ) = m x 1 + c , f ( x 2 ) = m x 1 + c therefore f ( x 2 ) − f ( x 1 ) = m ( x 2 − x 1 ) so the fraction is x 2 − x 1 m ( x 2 − x 1 ) which when cancelling x 2 − x 1 gives m on the left hand side and as the right hand side has not been touched, m = 5
