Little Mammu and the Marbles

Algebra Level 3

Little Mammu was playing marbles with her friend Nawal. I heard her say to him , "if you give me one of your marbles I'll have as many as you". Nawal replied, "if you give me one of your marbles, and I'll have twice as many as you".

I wondered how many marbles little Mammu had! How many marbles did little Mammu have?

The answer is 5.

Lets see...The given info shows.....

-Mammu need's 1 marble to have equal number of marbles as Nawal...

-But, Nawal need 1 more mable to have twice as many marbles as Mammu Simply Make EQUATION. Set up as.. 1m+2n=10

?? m+1 = n -1 and 2(m-1)=n+1 are the two equations to solve.
