y = ln ( x 3 ) y=\ln(x-3)

Logarithmic functions are only defined for positive real values, therefore

x 3 > 0 x > 3 x-3 > 0\implies x>3

This can be written as ( 3 , ) (3,\infty)

Therefore, a = 3 a=\boxed{3}
