Lying with a straight face...

Level pending

One day, Mr and Mrs Tan asked their four children, Benedict, Bob, Brenda and Brian about whether they did their homework. They know that those who did are telling the truth while those who did not are lying.

  • Benedict: All four of us did our homework.

  • Bob : Three of us did our homework

  • Brenda : Two of us did our homework

  • Brian: One of us did our homework.

The one who is telling the truth is...

Benedict, Bob, Brenda or Brian?

Bob Brenda Benedict Brian

There can only be one person telling the truth as the number of siblings who did their homework is definite. Since only one of the statements is true, only ONE of the siblings did their homework and since this statement is made by Brian, B r i a n \boxed{Brian} is the one telling the truth.
