I like to take a nice walk around the park after I come home from work. I usually take a direct path to the park, which is 1 mile long.
I decide that I want to walk along the beach to the park. If the paths from my house to the park, from my house to the beach entrance, and from the beach entrance to the park form an equilateral triangle, then how many miles will I walk if I go to the beach entrance, and then the park entrance?

In an equilateral triangle, all sides are the same length. Therefore, the length of the trail from my house to the beach entrance is the same length as the length of the trail from my house to the park entrance. These lengths are also the same as the length from the beach entrance to the park entrance. Therefore, walking from my house to the park entrance via the beach entrance will be 2 miles.
