Math in Daily Life: The Mean Customer Service Manager

Algebra Level 1

You work in a place where there's a very mean customer service manager. He's so mean, lots of customers place complaints to other customer service managers every day. Even you, your colleagues, and your employer don't like him.

Last month, in an effort to see how the mean customer service manager was doing, the company took reports on the number of customer service complaints submitted everyday before deciding if he should be fired or trained. Here's the data gathered:

27, 38, 17, 25, 37, 14, 16, 32, 18, 25, 16, 31, 28, 24, 25, 24, 28, 30, 12, 45, 24, 6, 30, 23, 16, 14, 11, 19, 18, 17.

You do not need to determine if he should be fired or kept. What is the average number of customer complaints filed everyday?

23 33 35 22 30 28 41

If you add up all the numbers together from the data, you get 690. 690 divided by 30 (number of days, or number of numbers in data) is 23. Therefore, there is an average of 23 complaints each day.
