X/2 - 1/2 = 22

X/2 = 22 + 1/2

X = 44 + 1 = 45

if there are 22 left and half of the total and half of 1 is sold ,the first we add haif in 22 i.e. 22 1\2 and now wewill double it i.e. 45.

Let x - total number of fish that Ben has from the start

x - x/2 -1/2 = 22 x = 45
