Maximum energy

A small block of mass m m , attached to one end of a massless spring, is kept on a smooth horizontal surface. The other end of the spring is moved with a constant velocity v v in the horizontal direction. Find the maximum total mechanical energy in the spring-block system.

1 2 m v 2 \frac{1}{2} mv^2 m v 2 mv^2 None of these 2 m v 2 2mv^2

Take the point of application of the force as the reference point wrt to thus point the particles undergoes shm...Initially if it had a speed v in backward direction some time later it will have a speed v in forward direction(as velocity oscillates in shm)in that case it net velocity wrt ground=2v.So Max kinetic energy = 2 m v 2 =2mv^2
