The mean of 25 25 numbers is 20 20 . If 5 5 is added to each of the first 10 10 numbers, find the mean of new set of 25 25 numbers.

The mean refers to the Arithmetic Mean . For example, the mean of the numbers 1 , 2 1, 2 and 3 3 is 1 + 2 + 3 3 = 2 \frac{1+2+3}{3}=2 .


The answer is 22.

The mean of 25 numbers is 20 then, the total is 500.
5 added to each of the first ten number then the total is 550. So, the mean of new set of 25 numbers is 550 25 = 22 \frac{550}{25} = 22

Given that the initial median is 20, then we added 5 for each of the first of ten numbers, so that (5*10)/25 = 2 and add this to the initial median, finally we get 22.
