Messi's goal

In the final match of the UEFA champions league, Messi has to hit the goal from 2 m 2\text{ m} away from it. The height of the goal is 3 m 3\text{ m} . There is one fantastic knowledge with Messi that the goalkeeper can stop the ball only at max 2.5 m 2.5\text{ m} high.

Also, Messi hits the ball with initial speed 3 m/s \sqrt{3}\text{ m/s} . Find the range of tan(angle) at which there is 100% possibility Messi will hit the goal.

Details and Assumptions :

  1. No player is stopping him i.e. no player is in between Messi and goalkeeper.
  2. Consider only gravity. Forget about magnus effect ,air resistance, etc.
  3. Take g = 10 m/s 2 g=10 \text{ m/s}^2 .
Messi cant hit the goal 49-49.03 2-2.01 61-61.09 10-10.02 10-10.03 10-10.01

Even if Messi strike the ball directly upwards with the given velocity of the ball, the ball will only reach a height of h= 3 2 g \frac{3}{2g} =0.15m. Therefore there is no way for the ball to go over 2.5m in a parabolic path where the maximum height is even lower than 0.15m.

Yes this is the shortest method max ht=u^2/2/g then also some have got wrong answer! .
