The quantities of milk and water are 40 40 and 20 20 litres respectively.

Now, if the ratio is to be 1 : 2 1:2 , the amount of water must be double the amount of milk, which is 80 80 litres.

Hence the amount to be added is 80 20 = 60 80-20=60 litres.
