Mind(Neuron) Blowing

The variable resistor is connected to a 30 ohms resistor in parallel. Then it is connected in series with the 6 ohms resistor and supplied by the 120 volts source. Find the minimum value of R when the power dissipated by the 6 ohms resistor is equal to the power absorbed by the variable resistor.

The answer is 11.45.

equate power in 6 ohms and power in the variable R..

then do some algebraic manipulations and arrive at quadratic equations..

solve for it and get the minimum answer..then R= 11.45 or 11.5
