If we look at the Colour (R,G,O) for each part of the star (sun?):
Centre - Up&Side Points - Diagonal Points
O - R - G (1st star)
R - G - O (2nd star)
For each feature we have the one remaining colour to be used
G - O - R (3rd star)
Or you could say R replaces O, G replaces R and O replaces G. Either way we have identified option C as the next best possible star.
