This phase is METAPHASE with the significant features visible-

  • The Nuclear Membrane has disappeared.

  • Chromosomes have condensed (they are visible), Sister Chromatids also visible.

  • Aster bodies are in the opposite poles.

  • Spindle fibres attaching to the kinetochore (protein layer) of the sister chromatids.

  • And the chromosomes aligned in the equitorial plate or the equitorial position.

The main event of the metaphase is the formation of the metaphase plate, in which all the chromosomes are arranged in the equitorial position.
