x = y x 2 x 12 = 0 ( x 4 ) ( x + 3 ) = 0 x = |y| \\ x^2 - x - 12 = 0 \\ (x-4)(x+3) = 0 Clearly x x is either 4 4 or 3 , -3, but since x = y , x = |y|, x 0 x \geq 0 so x = 4. x = 4. Now solve for y . y. y = 4 y = ± 4 |y| = 4 \\ y = \pm 4 And finally, find the product of the solutions. 4 × ( 4 ) = 16 4\times (-4) = \boxed{-16}

Right!!! That's how you do it!!

I entered 4 as the answer, since you asked for real roots
