Let x be the initial amount he had in his pocket.
Therefore according to the question, His amount after leaving the first temple is 2 x − 1 6 ,
His amount after leaving the second temple is ( 2 x − 1 6 ) ∗ 2 − 1 6 = 4 x − 4 8
His amount after leaving the third temple is ( 4 x − 4 8 ) ∗ 2 − 1 6 = 8 x − 1 1 2
His amount at the last temple is ( 8 x − 1 1 2 ) ∗ 2 − 1 6 = 0 [Since at last he is left with no money]
Therefore, 1 6 x − 2 4 0 = 0
1 6 x = 2 4 0
x = 1 6 2 4 0
x = 1 5
Therefore, the Amount in his pocket initially before arriving the temple was 1 5
