Assume that initial velocity v i = 0 v_i=0 , obviously initial distance d i = 0 d_i=0 , and knowing that basically d = v d t = a d t d t \displaystyle d = \int v~dt=\iint a~dtdt , we have: d = a d t d t = a t + v i d t = 1 2 a t 2 + v i t + d i d = \iint a~dtdt=\int at+v_i~dt = \dfrac{1}{2}at^2+v_it+d_i Because v i v_i and d i d_i are zero, we have d = 1 2 a t 2 d = \dfrac{1}{2}at^2

In problem, we are given a = 3.2 m / s 2 a=3.2~m/s^2 and t = 32.8 s t=32.8s . Plug in these values and solve it, we got d = 1721.344 1720 d = 1721.344\approx\boxed{1720}

Use the expression s=1/2(a*t^2) . Answer obtained is 1721.344 . Round up the answer to 1720 (standard answer)

Rounding 1721.344 to 1720 is also not "rounding up"

Totally agree with Ethan Robinett . There should be some mention in the problem if an answer of that kind is required. Eg: round the answer to nearest 10.

Well, in that case the answer should be 1721. But shouldn't you be asking that to the person who posted this problem?? P.S, I had to guess the last digit to be 0.

I have updated the answer so that it accepts a range of values, especially since Devesh has rounded off his answe.

In future, if you spot any errors with a problem, you can “report” it by selecting the “dot dot dot” menu in the lower right corner. You will get a more timely response that way.
