100 increased by 40% = 140 140 decreased by 20% = 112 So there is an increase of 12% from 100 to 112

just imagine you have 1000$ salary, increased 40% to 1400$, then decreased 20%, means 280$, then it ends with 1120$. 120$ is 12% of 1000$. Voila.

with 40 % increase salary waqs raised to 140 from Rs 100 with 20 % reduction ,his saraly from 140 reaches Rs 112/- ( say from Rs 100 it reaches Rs 80/-,so from 140 it will become 80/100 multiply by 140 =112/-) so net increase is from 100 to 112 Rs is 112-100 = 12% Ans

Assume Ram's salary is $100. 100 x 40% = 40, 100+40 = 140. 140 x 20% = 28, 40(from increasing 40%) - 28(from decreasing 20%) = 12, there is an increase of a total of 12% from 100 to 112.

If initial salary is 100, then after 40% increase, it is 140.

After 20% decrease, it will be 140 - (140*20/100) = 140 - 28 = 112

So, the salary changed from 100 to 112. i.e. increased by 12%

It is quite simple.Lets consider that the salary is 100.When increased by 40% it becomes 140.And when decreased by 20% it becomes 112. 112-100=12.Hence the increase in salary is 12%.

Hello,

s=salary, as for 40%(up),

= s + 0.4s = 1.4s

then 20%(down),

= 1.4s -(0.2 x 1.4s)

= 1.4s -0.28s = 1.12s

as for the actual increased salary is just that = 1.12 - 1 =0.12

therefore, 0.12 x 100% = 12%....

thanks...

a+b+ab/100 40+(-20)+40*(-20)/100 =12

Imagine Ram's salary is X

so in the first case the salary becomes X + X × 0.4 X + X \times 0.4

so the total salary was 1.4X

after his salary decreases by 20%, so that his salary become 1.4 X 1.4 X 20 100 1.4X - 1.4X \frac {20}{100}

So the new salary is 1.12X

So the increase in salary is 1.12 1.0 = 0.12 = 12 100 = 12 % 1.12-1.0=0.12= \frac {12}{100} = 12\%

let x be ur salary

40% increase = 1.4x.....after it decrease by 20%.........(1.4x) * 0.8 = 1.12

1.12x - x = 0.12 or 12%
