1 solution

m m = my age now

s s = age of my son now

Two years ago:

m 2 = 4 ( s 2 ) m-2=4(s-2)

m 2 = 4 s 8 m-2=4s-8

m = 4 s 8 + 2 m=4s-8+2

m = 4 s 6 m=4s-6 ( 1 ) \color{#D61F06}(1)

Eight years ago:

m 8 = 10 ( s 8 ) m-8=10(s-8)

m 8 = 10 s 80 m-8=10s-80

m = 10 s 80 + 8 m=10s-80+8

m = 10 s 72 m=10s-72 ( 2 ) \color{#D61F06}(2)

Substituting ( 2 ) \color{#D61F06}(2) in ( 1 ) \color{#D61F06}(1) , we have

10 s 72 = 4 s 6 10s-72=4s-6

10 s 4 s = 6 + 72 10s-4s=-6+72

6 s = 66 6s=66

s = 11 \boxed{s=11} answer \boxed{\text{answer}}
