The answer is 96 × ( 100 − 1 ) = 96 × 100 − 96 = 9504 96 × (100 - 1) = 96 × 100 - 96 = \color{#69047E}{\boxed{9504}} .

100 − 96 = 4 100-96=4 ... ( 1 ) (1) 100 − 99 = 1 100-99=1 ... ( 2 ) (2) Multiplying ( 1 ) (1) and ( 2 ) (2) Therefore last two digits 04 . \boxed{04}. Now, first two digits 96 − 1 = 99 − 4 = 95 96-1=99-4=\boxed{95} ∴ 96 x 99 = 9504 \therefore 96x99=\boxed{9504}
