The slope of d i s p l a c e m e n t t i m e displacement-time graph gives the value of velocity and at the point E E , the slope of the curve is negative. Hence the velocity is negative at E E .

Drawing tangents to the points C , D , E C, D, E and F F in the graph, we observe that the slope of the tangent is negative only at point E E , and the slope of tangent to a point in displacement-time graph gives the instantaneous velocity at that point. Hence, at E E , the instantaneous velocity is negative.
