New average is always an integer

We have a set of distinct positive integers, the smallest integer of the set is 1 and the largest is 2015. If we remove exactly one number from the set (any of the numbers of the set) then the average of the remaining numbers is an integer. What is the maximum possible number of elements the set could have had initially?

The answer is 39.
