AF, BE, CG can be paired such that when one of them is placed over the other all dots are covered once. Hence D is odd one out.

I said C because it is the only one with 5 dots. I do not like this problem. It could have multiple answers, it depends upon how you look at the problem.

when all are paired one above the other the D will be the only one which will be out

What Colin shows is that when a problem is created and designed to stimulate a given answer based on one logic, the creator can sometimes forget that there is more than one way of making patterns.
