November 3rd, 2014 Was My 18th Birthday! :D

Calculus Level 3

Yesterday, November 3rd, 2014, was my 18th birthday, :) so I went on a little plane ride. Since it was my 18th birthday, the 2 flight pilots that I knew told me “Happy Birthday” and let me sit with them in the cock pit, which I thanked them and considered that as first class. While we were in the air, I asked the guys a couple questions. After 45 minutes in the air, I first asked, “What is our current altitude?” One of the pilots told me that “we are flying horizontally at an altitude of 1 mile”. I then ask about our current speed, which the other one told me “at a speed of 500 mph and actually passing over a radar station.” I have an awesome 18th birthday. :D

To the nearest whole number, what would be the rate at which the distance from our plane to the station is increasing when it is just 2 miles away from the station?

The answer is 433.
