nuclear reaction formula

Level 2

When a neutron collides with an atomic nucleus of nitrogen, the nuclear reaction formula is as follows: 7 14 N + 0 1 n 6 14 C + 1 1 H . _{7}^{14}\textrm{N} + _{0}^{1}\textrm{n} \to _{6}^{14}\textrm{C} + _{1}^{1}\textrm{H}. Which of the following does NOT change after the reaction?

a) number of protons

b) number of neutrons

c) total mass

a) a) and b) a), b) and c) b) and c)

Before: 7 protons + 0 proton; 7 neutrons + 1 neuron; 14.003074 + 1.008665 = 15.011739;

After: 6 protons + 1 proton; 8 neutrons + 0 neutron; 14.003242 + 1.007825 = 15.011067;

Therefore, only total mass not changed is incorrect.

Answer: a ) a n d b ) \boxed{a)~and~b)}
