Nuclear Reaction

Level 2

Consider the two nuclear reaction formulas as follows: [ 1 ] : 1 2 H + 1 3 H 2 4 He + [ A ] + 17.6 MeV [ 2 ] : 92 235 U + [ B ] 56 141 Ba + 36 92 Kr + 3 0 1 n + 200 MeV \begin{aligned} [1]&: \quad _{1}^{2}\textrm{H}+_{1}^{3}\textrm{H} \to _{2}^{4}\textrm{He}+[A]+17.6 \text{MeV} \\ [2]&: \quad _{92}^{235}\textrm{U}+[B] \to _{56}^{141}\textrm{Ba}+_{36}^{92}\textrm{Kr}+3 _{0}^{1}\textrm{n}+200 \text{MeV} \end{aligned}

Which of the following statements is correct about these nuclear reactions?

a) [1] is a nuclear fusion reaction.

a) 2 smaller atoms combined into 1 bigger atom is fusion regardless of particle(s) emitted; opposite to fission which splits.

b) No change of total number between protons and neutrons shall not release negative particle(s) such as electron(s) or β \beta -particle.

c) Let minus(-) electron = negative; no change of total number of protons and neutrons respectively should not release negative particle.

Answer: a ) \boxed{a)}
