Sum of 1st 100 whole numbers means sum of first 99 natural number because the first term of whole numbers is 0 therefore the sum is 99 × ( 99 + 1 ) 2 = 99 × 100 2 = 99 × 50 = 4950 \frac{99\times(99+1)}{2}=\frac{99\times100}{2}=99\times50=4950

5050 - 100 = 4950 starting from 0 instead of 1, to 99 instead of 100.
