It is given that a b + c d ab + cd is an even number . a b ab is an even number . The sum of two even numbers will give us an even number. So, both a b ab and c d cd are even numbers.

a b = e v e n = e v e n × e v e n ab = even = even \times even (or) e v e n × o d d even \times odd

c d = e v e n = e v e n × e v e n cd = even = even \times even (or) e v e n × o d d even \times odd

So, the maximum number of even numbers possible is 4 4 . (In the first cases of a b ab and c d cd )
