It is given that ab + cd is an odd number . The sum of an even number and odd number will give odd number .

So cd is an even number .

a b = o d d × o d d ab = odd \times odd

c d = o d d × e v e n cd = odd \times even

Therefore the maximum number of odd numbers possible is 3 \boxed{3} .
