On the Line

It is a small town railway station and there are 25 stations on that line. At each of the 25 stations the passengers can get tickets for any of the other 24 stations.

How many different kinds of tickets do you think the booking clerk has to keep?

The answer is 600.

At each station passengers can get tickets for any of the other 24 stations .

Total number of stations = 25

So the number of tickets required =24 x 25 = 600

Assuming that a clerk only sells tickets for trains leaving from thier station only, then each clerk needs 24 tickets for the other stations. Not 25 because it is meaningless to sell a ticket for their own station.

Absolutely and it's clearly mentioned in my solution already. The total number of stations= 24x25 = 600.
