Assume T as the total number of swans. Therefore the number of swans playing are 7/2 sq. root T. Since the rest of the swans (2 in number) are playing amorously the total number of swans (T) = 7/2 Sq. root T + 2........which is expressed as.......7/2*SQ ROOT (T) + 2 = T
Taking squares of both the sides of the above equation we end up with a quadratic equation which is .......4T^2 - 65T + 16 = 0
Solving for T above we get 1/4 and 16 as two roots of the quadratic equation.
Since the number of swans cannot be a fraction (1/4), therefore the number of swans is 16
