Looks are superficial, or are they?

Logic Level 3

Four siblings --Alfred, Brenda, Charles and Darius-- were comparing themselves based on six different physical attributes - age, height, weight, hair length, spectacle degree and fairness of skin.

Facts:

  1. Charles has the second fairest skin and is the oldest.
  2. Alfred is the second tallest and is the lightest in weight.
  3. Darius has the second longest hair.
  4. Brenda has the second highest spectacle degree.
  5. The heaviest sibling also has the highest spectacle degree.
  6. Charles has longer hair than Alfred.
  7. The person with the longest hair is the third born child.
  8. Brenda is shorter than Alfred.
  9. The darkest person also has the lowest spectacle degree.
  10. The shortest person is heavier than Brenda.
  11. Charles has a higher spectacle degree than Darius.
  12. The tallest person was born just before the shortest person.
  13. The person with the fairest skin was born just before the person with the darkest skin.

Rank the four siblings from the one with the darkest skin to the one with the fairest skin.

Alfred, Darius, Charles, Brenda Brenda, Darius, Charles, Alfred Darius, Brenda, Charles, Alfred Alfred, Brenda, Charles, Darius Brenda, Alfred, Charles, Darius Darius, Alfred, Charles, Brenda

From statements 1 , 7 , 6 and 3 the person with the longest hair can't be Charles as he is the oldest (1) and the person with the shortest hair is the third born child (7) , Alfred (by 6 he has shorter hair than Charles) or Darius since he is the second longest haired sibling and not the first (3) meaning that by eliminating 3 children out of the total 4 the only remaining person who has the longest hair must be Brenda.

Therefore Brenda is the one with the longest hair , Darius is the second and because Charles has longer hair than Alfred , Charles is the third and Alfred must be the 4th anyway.

Because Brenda is the longest haired person by 7 she is also the third born child. Looking at statements anyway in a similar fashion as used for deducing the longest haired person observe that by considering statements 2 , 1 , 12 and 12 the person with the shortest hair can't be Charles as he is the oldest (1) and therefore doesn't have being the first born a sibling which is born before him as it is known that the shortest person has (12) , can't be Alfred as he is the second tallest (2) , or Brenda since she is compared with that person (in 10) meaning that because Charles , Alfred and Brenda where eliminated the shortest person must be Darius. Because from 8 Brenda is shorter than the 2nd tallest sibling and Darius is the shortest she has to be the 3nd tallest and Charles is the shortest.

By considering statement 12 it is known that the shortest was born after the tallest meaning that Darius was born immediately after Charles therefore because Charles is the first meaning that Darius is 2nd born child. As anyway is known that Charles is the1st , Darius the 2nd and Brenda the 3nd Alfred must be the 4th born child. Therefore considering the order in which they are born from the first it is Charles , Darius , Brenda , Alfred. further it remain to investigate the rank of their spectacle degrees and finally skin color.

Again, the heaviest person by considering 2 and 10 can't be Alfred (since by statement 2 he is the lightest) or Brenda the shortest , this being Charles is heavier than her by 10. Therefore the heaviest is either Charles or Darius but by conjunction of 5 and 10 because the heaviest sibling has also the best spectacle degree by 5 and because Charles has a better spectacle degree by 10 the heaviest and best spectacle degree person must be Charles meaning that in order from the heaviest they are Charles , Darius , Brenda , Alfred.

Since Charles is the heaviest as seen by 5 he has the highest spectacle degree , then by 4 comes Brenda the second spectacle degree meaning that the ones with the least spectacle degree are Alfred and Darius in anyway some order which can't be determined meaning that it would be indicated after the cumulative information deduced to observe what is the order or part of the order based on the skin color. Observe again that the darkest considering statements 1 , 9 and 4 can't be Charles (1) or Brenda since she has the second spectacle degree (4) and it is know by statement 9 that the darkest has the worst spectacle degree meaning that also Alfred or Darius have the darkest skin. Considering further statement number 13 the fairest skin person was born immediately before the darkest skin person and reminding that the order of their birth is Charles , Darius , Brenda , Alfred because as it was anyway seen Alfred or Darius have the darkest skin either Charles or Brenda must have the fairest skin yet since it is known that Charles has the second fairest skin the one with the fairest skin must be Brenda therefore the one with the darkest born after the fairest is Alfred. Then Brenda is the fairest , Charles the second , Darius the third and finally Alfred the darkest by skin color. This is enough to solve the problem without deducing everything but for anyway completeness since Alfred has the darkest color he must have the lowest spectacle degree by 9. Therefore for the spectacle degree the order is the same as the skin color rank with Charles and Brenda reversed. That meaning considering the spectacle degree the order is Charles , Brenda , Darius , Alfred.
