We wish to study vitamin B 12 B_{12} . We plan on synthesizing complex X , that can help us understand its reactions with various substrates.

Synthesizing Y : A three step process

  • We start with 2-butyne and ozone to give us compound A
  • A reacts with Zinc and acetic acid to give B
  • B reacts with hydroxyl-amine and catalytic amount of H + H^{+}

Adding pyridine and ligand Y to a solution of C o C l 2 CoCl_{2} gives us compound X .

Let α \alpha denote the number of rings present in A and β \beta denote the number of unpaired electrons in compound X .

Find the value of α + β \alpha + \beta
