Starting with x, we get

3 x + 8 2 6 = x \frac{3x+8}{2}-6=x

3 x + 8 2 = x + 6 \Rightarrow \frac{3x+8}{2}=x+6

3 x + 8 = 2 x + 12 \Rightarrow 3x+8=2x+12

x = 4 \Rightarrow x=4
