Party time

Probability Level pending

4 members of a family decide to go to a party. The location is at a certain distance from there house. It starts raining when they depart.

They have only one umbrella with them that can accommodate 2 of the family members at a time. So they decide to go there in of sets of 2 with one of them returning to take others to the place.

The 4 members A, B, C and D take 1, 2 , 5, and 10 minutes respectively to reach there.

Calculate the minimum time taken by all the family members to reach there.

Note: They can follow any sequence while going to the party.

Firstly A and B go together. Time taken =2 minutes

A returns. Time taken=1 minutes.

C and D go together. Time taken =10 minutes.

B returns. Time taken =2 minutes.

A and B go together. Time taken =2 minutes.

Therefore, total time taken by all family members is 17 minutes.

I think you should mention the assumption about time that is considered while two members going together.
