Consider the wins to be red marbles and the losses to be blue marbles. In total we have 8 marbles - 5 red and 3 blue. Suppose all the marbles were different, then the number of ways we can arrange them is 8 ! 8! . However this does not include that 5 red marbles are repeated (identical) and 3 blue marbles are repeated. When we include that we get

8 ! 5 ! 3 ! = 56 \frac{8!}{5!3!} = 56
