A salesman sold twice as many pears in the afternoon than in the morning. If he sold 360 kilograms of pears that day, how many kilograms did he sell in the morning, and how many in the afternoon?

It’s simple. Let the pearls sold in morning be x . Then, the pearls sold in afternoon will be 2 x
x + 2 x 3 x x = 3 6 0 = 3 6 0 = 1 2 0
Thus he sold 120 pearls in the morning and 240 in the afternoon
You can solve using linear equations, but only 1 2 0 and 2 4 0 add up to 3 6 0 . :)
A very smart solution indeed:)

I am not adding an explanation, but I want to see who can. :)

It's actually really simple.
Take the number of pears sold in the morning as x
So, the number of pears sold in the afternoon will be 2 x (since it is said that "twice as many")
Now, as we know the total number of pears sold (360), we can form a linear equation: x +2 x =360
=> 3 x =360
=> x = 3 3 6 0
=> x =120
Now we can easily find out the numbers of pears:
In the morning = x = 120
In the afternoon = 2 x = 120 x 2 = 240
Hope this helped!
