The consecutive vertices of a polygon are ( 6 , 4 ) , ( 5 , 1 ) , ( 0 , 0 ) , ( 7 , 3 ) (-6,4),(-5,1),(0,0),(7,3) and ( 3 , 6 ) (3,6) . Find the perimeter of this polygon. Give your answer correct to six decimal places.

Use the distance formula on each side. We have

a = ( 3 7 ) 2 + ( 6 3 ) 2 = 16 + 9 = 5 a=\sqrt{(3-7)^2+(6-3)^2}=\sqrt{16+9}=5

b = ( 6 3 ) 2 + ( 4 6 ) 2 = 81 + 4 = 85 b=\sqrt{(-6-3)^2+(4-6)^2}=\sqrt{81+4}=\sqrt{85}

c = ( 5 + 6 ) 2 + ( 1 4 ) 2 = 1 + 9 = 10 c=\sqrt{(-5+6)^2+(1-4)^2}=\sqrt{1+9}=\sqrt{10}

d = ( 0 + 5 ) 2 + ( 0 1 ) 2 = 25 + 1 = 26 d=\sqrt{(0+5)^2+(0-1)^2}=\sqrt{25+1}=\sqrt{26}

e = ( 7 0 ) 2 + ( 3 0 ) 2 = 49 + 9 = 58 e=\sqrt{(7-0)^2+(3-0)^2}=\sqrt{49+9}=\sqrt{58}
