Geometry Level 3

Three different circles are all touching each other but not overlapping.

  • One circle has center O O and radius 4,
  • and another circle has center A A and radius 2,
  • and another circle has center P P and radius r r

Given that O A OA is perpendicular to A P AP , find r r .

(4+2)^2 + (2+r)^2 = (4+r)^2

36 + 4 + 4r + r^2 = 16 + 8r + r^2

24 = 4r

r = 6
