John and Smith are eating pizza. John brought five and Smith brought three pieces. Another woman, Izzy, came with no pieces of pizza. The three of them ate the eight pieces of pizza equally. When they finished, Izzy gave them both 8 dollars and thanked them for their kindness. What is the fairest way of splitting the money between them?

Every person gets 8 thirds of pizza out of 24 thirds. John brought 5 pieces which is the equivalent of 15 thirds. He ate eight of them and gave seven thirds to Izzy. Smith brought 3 pieces which is the equivalent of 9 thirds. He ate eight of them and gave one third to Izzy. So Izzy has eight thirds, seven from John and one from Smith. If she gave 1 dollar to every third she got, she would give John 7$ and 1$ to Smith
